26 - Adventurers, Bats, Caverns and Dreamkats
Previous session: 25 - Another day in Paradise
A tall pale elf vampire is standing in front of us, after a flock of bats entered the trolley.
Dottie starts shrieking and they start to argue between themselves, forgetting the other people in the car, including us. From what we understand between two screams, the conversation seems to be around the Baron turning Dottie into a vampire, and Dottie insists with what they had was temporary. Azzy interrupts the argument.
The Baron tries to explain their relationship, but he sees her mostly as a subject or an object, and not really an equal.
He looks at Persy, assuming it's his armor, and not his body.
They both laugh to this.
He mimes to Dottie to get closer to him so he can convert her
We let them discuss without intervening. The voices keep going up and up.
He lunges forwards and stands over Dottie, as she jumps behind her and grabs a servant and yells "IGNITIUS", throwing the Vampire and gets bitten, and when retracting from the servant's neck, he leaves a red ichor blood ribbon.
Persy complains about being sucked so much from the vampire.
Suddenly, Or is standing in the cabin. They have a bag and picks up dead bats.
Or walks up to them, and looks them.
And then they disappear in a puff of smoke.
Reylynn heals the group before we resume our travel. But we have to crank up the cable car by ourselves, as the Ignatius didn't survived the encounter
The air is getting rare as we arrive, and we can observe the sunrise with a beautiful vista, but interrupted by a loud rumbling coming from below, and it goes for a moment.
When looking down, we see all the snow bursting from the ground up. The sky lodge explodes into pieces. A bit before the destruction, we see a ship that sails on rainbow material that flies into the air, and goes up to the mountain, making this loud roaring sound. It does another avalanche, but as we're on the top of the mountain, we're fine.
We see Dottie on the railing with three new Ignatius we haven't met before.
From where we are, it will take 1-2 days to reach the top. We notice a small shack on the side, probably for the cable car, big enough so we can rest from the vampires attack.
Upon waking up and taking more time to observe the view, we can see the coast, hundred of miles South from here. Even if it's cold and been a terrible ride, the view is gorgeous. We resume our trek.
We've been encountering weird creatures on the way, that the rodents are the size of small dogs, and giant mountain goats that are the size of a horse.
[Perception - Pass ✔] Persy notices three figures standing on a ridge far away, and look closer, and they appear as another taur figures, half humanoid, half goat, called Caprataurs. They turn and walk away.
[Perception - Pass ✔] Reylynn notices it first...
[DEX Save - Fail ❌] ...but Persy goes through the snow, and fall down. He uses the Pirate Hookshot and lands safely.
Persy landed in a mossy cavern, and strangely warm, as the last time he was in a warm place was the sky lodge.
[Detect Portals] There is a portal, one mile above us.
Reylynn doesn't see anything by looking up.
After exchanging a bit more and with the idea of the portal, we're all getting down into the cavern.
By exploring further, we hear something that sounds like music.
We keep exploring that tunnel. By getting closer, it sounds more like several smaller voices singing in languages we don't understand. That tunnel seems endless until we exit into a well lit cavern, and a late afternoon sunlit lights up the place.
There are plants, waterfalls so tall we don't see the top. At the base, there are massive rocks.
When looking that room, we notice the source of the sounds: so many strange small creatures, looking like ferrets, but ending with a really long prehensile and flexible tail. Their fur is more a sheep wool texture like, being a pale blue shade of colors.
But most importantly: they do look like really cute.
They're making different strange noises, singing different songs and at the end it goes into a single melody.
Reylynn casts [Speak with Animals] and let go a "Hi.".
They seem surprised from Reylynn's message, and the acapella song changes. It goes "Pam PAM Pam PAM" (and so on).
The discussion goes full musical, but only Reylynn understands what's being said, to which she answers back with a rhythmed hello.
They jump down and goes from the ouverture into the act one of the musical piece, waiting for the replica from Reylynn.
Azzy tries to pet one and they let themselves being pet, and it's incredibly soft.
However, they seem to be into it, as more of them go more closer to Azzy, where finally Persy goes to pet them.
Both of them seem to giggle as children.
Nesvalyn tries to not interact with them to learn more, and rely on the party for the interaction side.
The song ends.
We hear a door opening slamming.
They all run away and hide in various bushes.
We hear a brief pause, then small steps on the stone floor, like some angry walking. Suddenly, a looming shadow appears behind the plants, looking like a human child. As he looks at us, we notice a pale blue skin, light pink hair, purple eyes, and he comes around from the pile of rocks on the center.
He notices us.
[Insight - Pass ✔] This is a child, admittedly older than the group, but still a child nonetheless. Something is wrong with his mother and he doesn't want to tell us.
He nods.
We follow him turning around the boulders in the center, and we go through that swinging metal door leading into a hallway, leading to a gate 10ft further.
Fen grabs both and collapses them at once.
Persy and Nesvalyn are surprised with this, letting a "Wow".
Fen steps onto this new wooden platform and we follow him. Once we're all in, he closes this grid, and pulls a lever, revealing to be a fast lift.
When we arrived at what seems the destination, he opens the grid again and looks at us.
We arrived to destination, and we're entering in this one room cavern. The place is a real mess, showing where Fen lives. The room is filled with clothes, parchments and various creations/trinkets. There's a massive bad at the other side.
Laying upon the bed, there is this a 15ft woman with deep sapphire blue skin, looking dull, purple bubblegum curled hair. The bed is surrounded with semi translucent orbs.
He taps and two light screens appear.
Persy tries to read it, but doesn't understand.
It becomes Wunderran common, but Persy still doesn't understand it.
Reylynn detects no poison.
While Persy is preparing his spell, we notice that the orbs seem to be the incubation for the Dreamkats.
[Identify] An orb seems to swell from the corner of the eye.
Fen walks up and clears the orbs, as they drop every 5-10 minutes.
[Minero Morphosis insight] They don't seem to be infected.
[Identify follow-up] She seems to be tapped from a source of magic around the room. The detected type is pure raw magic energy.
Fen flies out to prove his point.
With that magic and how it's been affecting them, we decide to get down and spend the evening with the Dreamkats. Driven by curiosity, Persy have a look around on how it can be warm.
[Investigation - Pass ✔] Persy notices that the plants are bizarre, especially in this hostile place. When checking that pile of rocks in the middle, it's like they were placed or dropped here. The ceiling above is still intact however. Some of the rocks are connected, and he can sees bruises and scratches, like they were rubbed together.
He shares the information to the party.
[History - Pass ✔] Nesvalyn recalls about ancient myths about something called Stone Giants:
There are 4 pillars holding up the Wunderran Earth.
Several hundred years ago, the Halflings went extinct, as they were called the Ancients and wiped by the Immortals, predecessors of the Elves.
After the Giants wiped out, about 300 years ago, the Halflings get back, but they were called the Neorns this time (and being the new Ancients). But mostly, they got back from nowhere and unexpectedly.
It got believed they reborn because of a wish from a stone giant, coming from a mountain in the giant land.
↪We might be standing in the cradle of the Neorns, it appears that this pile of rocks is actually the stone giant. But most importantly, it is dead, which is not an easy feat to achieve.
There's a whole banter between Persy and Nesvalyn being the reason of why the place is magical, and the source of the pure raw energy.
[Detect magic] The whole room is magical.
[Identify] Abandoned magic is emanating/radiating from the pile of rocks.
↪Further in the identifying, Persy is feeling he's standing in the middle of the Wunderran soul, being everything and nothing at once. Then the feeling slowly fades away as he gets back to his original body.
Persy pulls out his Mason's tools and tries to use them on the Stone Giant's corpse, but he can't achieve anything as it's too tough.
