22 - Dome & Devil

Previous session: 21 - Revelations, Royal Drama and Regicide

Interview with a Devil
...

That devil blocks the way out of the hut.

Willum
You couldn't just let us leave right? We just want to get out of here.
Unknown Devil
You killed my pets.
Willum
That wasn't the intention. If we could understood each other, we would've gone and left and everything would've been good.
Persy
It was basically self defense. You can't blame us for that.
Unknown Devil
A mortal has no business telling me what should I do.
Willum
That was really disrespectful of him. We wanted to resolve this amicably.
Unknown Devil
Where I come from, bloodshed is the amicable way.
Willum
Perhaps we could replace them?
Unknown Devil
Replacement pets?
Willum
We can find something else.
Reylynn
We don't want to entertain a devil.
Willum
The other option is probably fighting her and die trying.
Reylynn
We can just walk away.
Willum
You really think so?
Reylynn
Yeah.

Persy casts [Cure Wounds] on him, then tries to learn more by observing her, but fails to see more with that black cloak hiding her.

Unknown Devil
What do you suggest as new pets?

Willum thinks to propose Wingnut as a plan, but the party quickly mentions that it's a bad idea.
Loyal thinks to take a deal with the entity, but could be also a bad idea.

Persy
Ok, this is getting harder, what's your name?
Unknown Devil
My name is Mistress Avrakishi.
Persy
I'm mostly surprised you didn't came during the battle if you cared about it.
Mistress Avrakishi
Obviously it's copybara, they can handle themselves because they're genius
Persy
Don't see how it's our fault.
Mistress Avrakishi
I picked it BECAUSE IF WAS CUTE.

On that mention, the cloak is bellowing and the room gets warmer, as a warning that we shouldn't mess with her.

Persy is casting [Cure Wounds] on himself, but get "counterspell" and a chain restrains him, with Mistress Avrakishi as a starting point.

Mistress Avrakishi
Do you think you can cast in front of me, worm?
Persy
More a beetle if you look at it.

[Insight] Willum, as an optimist, really believes he can talk his way out of it from judging the situation.

Persy
I was just trying to cast a spell to heal myself, not to attempt something on you. Is it something wrong?
Mistress Avrakishi
No.
Willum
Ms. Avrakishi, I'm sorry that my friend tried to cast a spell. If you let him go, we could perhaps arrive at an arrangement.

[Persuasion - Pass ✔] Persy feels the chain going out.

Mistress Avrakishi
Negotiate? Are you asking to make a deal?
Willum
Unfortunately, I stopped making deals with powerful of entities centuries ago. You see I'd hope we would make an arrangement with you.
Mistress Avrakishi
Ugh, you were so close. You dare wasting Mistress time? Here's the proposition, one of you make a deal with me, and you can go.
Willum
If we can discuss between us to decide who.
Mistress Avrakishi
Have your side bar.

She turns her back, letting us discuss.
Willum senses that either we have to make a deal, or we try to fight our way, but seems unsure about our victory chance.
After a long discussion within the group, we decide to take our chance and confront her.

Willum
Ms. we came to a conclusion: We decide that we would leave.
Mistress Avrakishi
Uh. What?
Willum
Well we said we would leave. We leave and you can have the rest of the dome.
Mistress Avrakishi
So the deal is that you leave and I can have the rest of the dome?
Persy
No, we don't, bad wording Willum.
Mistress Avrakishi
So how you're going to repay the blood and this contract?
Nesvalyn
Do you have it?

Flames erupts and a contract appears in her hand, showing it to Nesvalyn. The document seems to be in infernal, but he can't read that language. However we clearly notice a blood pawprint of a capybara at the bottom.

Willum
But we can't read Infernal.
Persy
Well actually...
Loyal
Persistance, don't mention anything else, no one can read it.
Willum
In that case, how can we be sure about that contract?

Her voice raises up, letting a booming and echoing "ENOUGH", with a chain reaching our feet and removing her cloak, revealing her being mostly naked, hidden with the few chains surrounding her.

NO ONE MAKES FUN OF ME AND MAKES ME LOSE TIME.

Four chains erupt from the ground and burning on their own, surrounding us fully, and setting the hut on fire.

After getting our sight back from the explosion, we notice many capybaras are dead, all the armors are gone, and the fire is spreading wildly.
Persy casts [Cure Wounds] on Willum for 6 HP, bringing him back to consciousness.
Once Willum gets up, we notice Sir Tonq pushing his way through to join us.

Sir Tonq
Quickly, we have to get out of the village!
Persy
Perhaps we should check for survivors?

Sir Tonq leaves without reacting to Persy's comment.

Loyal
You can't save everybody Persistance. We lose time by talking.

Just when Loyal ends his sentence, Persy nods and rushes to one of the houses, Reylynn checks another house, and Willum too after grumbling a bit.

[Survival] They either find empty huts or bodies.

After convincing Persy, we're leaving the village and reunite with Sir Tonq outside. His collar glows when he's doing magic to wet the trees to reduce the fire spreading..

Sir Tonq
What happened?
Nesvalyn
We can't explain now, we need to find The Platypus.
Willum
Let's say that someone loves fire.
Sir Tonq
Ok, you need to find The Platypus, usually it starts to rain when fire starts. I'll warn the Otters.

Persy checks how much the fire will spread.
[Nature - Pass ✔] With these conditions, we have 24 hours before the whole dome is consumed, and 8 hours before it becomes unbreathable.

Convincing the Platypus
...

On the way, Nesvalyn expresses his worries about his condition and staying vague on how to proceed and perhaps him going alone to see The Platypus at worst case, but Willum is pressing.
After a bit, Nesvalyn shares his fear and worry about the Minero Morphosis, and proposes to stay behind if needed, and the group convinces him he won't turn and he's still welcome to the party, ending on Nesvalyn hugging Willum, silently crying, and ends with a group hug, giving a brief respite within the chaos.
Loyal reminds we could just leave The Dome.
Upon reaching how to proceed with The Platypus, Persy jumps (once again) first, and Loyal follows right after, and the rest the group gets in.

We arrive in the bedroom like last time, and head directly inside the lab, seeing The Platypus wearing a brown duster, holding a cigarette and a glass of dark liquid, watching the fire spreading on his strange device.

The Platypus
I knew you would get back here.

We notice an egg shaped vessel on the side who wasn't there last time, with two brown suitcases inside.

Willum
Of course we would come here. What's that thing about?
The Platypus
Going home. My mission here is complete. And be assigned again.
Nesvalyn
Which was?
The Platypus
Contain. And keep data.
Willum
How long have you been here? We've had an offer from the Otters which could help us finding them, and you know if you have loved ones, that would help to find them. But we can't without the Otters, and they won't help us until the fire is out. So we came here hoping to help them, if you could stay around for a decade or two. You mentioned a war or calamity, and people dying no matter what, we're asking you to delay your escape for a bit so we can find the ones we love.

During this micro monologue, The Platypus finishes his drink and pulls his last drag on his cigarette.

The Platypus
Here's the thing kid: I don't give a shit about your family, and I'm about to see mine.

They click on a button and a tube appears.

Nesvalyn
But we could find a cure if you keep observing, there can't be a cure if no one tries!
The Platypus
I've been there for thousands of years, I'm not going to be the one finding it. I'm just a regular old dude who had to be a platypus. And no, I'm not going to help you to find your family, and I don't care enough, you can have anything here.
Persy
It's mot their fault, there's been a devil behind! No one wanted this...
The Platypus
A devil? Sheesh, imagine something like that infected.

They gets in a seat and it closes around themselves.

The Platypus
I'm going home, and so should you.

When the door starts to close, we hear a rambling and someone is coming in through the pipes: an entity is leaping in a armor similar to the components of the labs with a black visor, where they call out "Freeze! Freeze! Stop that platypus", and the door finally closes. They unload something into The Platypus, and they recoil and leaves a final wheezing.

Persy
The fuck?
Willum
What?
Balnorin
There goes him checking his family.

The mysterious figure faces us, and reaches up and presses something on the side of the head, revealing the face of a (Wunderran) human, looking young (we would give 16-17).

???
Wow cool, thanks for distracting him!
Persy and Willum
The fuck was that?

He walks to The Platypus' body and get something from him, while doing idle chatting about taking them down.

???
The name's Sprigg by the way.
Persy
Hey, I'm Persy, so what are you, what have you done, and why? What is even that... THING?!
Sprigg
This is just a banana.

Sprigg proves it's really a banana, as he opens it and eats it.

Nesvalyn
So why are you here murdering him? And we're not next right?
Sprigg
How do we say in Wundera already? Oh it's really Wundera, it's been a while since I'm home.
Nesvalyn
You're from Wundera?
Persy
How do you not understand our reaction?
Sprigg
Doesn't matter. The organisation I work candles people who are getting outside their breaches.
Persy
How did they get out?
Sprigg
They think they can play gods, and we're the ones reminding what a god is supposed to be.
Persy
By sending them to their god?

He laughs, drops a "That's funny", then let a portable hole, walks over and throws The Platypus' body along their belongings.

Sprigg
Yeah, thanks guys, good job team.
Persy
What about the dome?
Sprigg
What do you mean?
Persy
You know, the thing above us?
Sprigg
Not really.
Persy
About the contaminated people?
Sprigg
It's contaminated?
Persy
Yeah by the... what's called?
Nesvalyn
The Minero Morphosis, and that's apparently what they're infected with. We arrived outside and not contaminated from what we understood.
Sprigg
Oh, I see.
Persy
Can you take care of this building?
Sprigg
Yeah, easy.

He plays with the screens, where we can see the fire being put out with a big storm, while commenting "Old technology, easy. How did it get here?".

Persy
Do you know if there's a cure yet or?
Sprigg
There's no cure of it, it's just a bioweapon.
Persy
Bioweapon?
Willum
What's that?
Sprigg
Anyway, gotta catch up another time, it's nice to see friendly faces. Everything is fine now.
Persy
Not really, but can you find someone else to supervise them?
Sprigg
It's a low priority case for the moment, it runs on autopilot for the moment, they should be fine. Gotta go now, see ya!

As Sprigg leaves, we're all perplexed on what just happened under our eyes. We're not really sure ourselves, so we decide to at least get back to check the Otter King Village, as we technically put out the fire as asked, and saved The Dome from that threat.

Back to the Otter King Village
...

Once outside, we see that the dam didn't held, and the river is unblocked and flowing in high streams.
The closer we get to the village, the more we hear the sounds of drums and flutes, and when they see us, they cheer even more, proclaimed as the saviors of The Dome. Lady Lutrina and Sir Tonq greets us.

After the greeting and thanking us, Persy asks how Sir Tonq got outside the dome.
Lady Lutrina is shocked and asks an answer.
Sir Tonq blushes and mentions he found us, so it was worth it.
The party scolds him, as it was reckless and the best result he got was to find us, as he got attacked by a Dragon. And we insist that no one else should get out of The Dome.

We're proposed to stay for the night and enjoy the festivities, and we're allowed to ask one question each as promised. The three scrying otters will accompany the character in their question.

Willum: Where is my son Ludwig?

The pool turns into white, realizing you're really high up on a field a snow. Suddenly there's a red splash on the snow, with a tiger going on. There's a flash on Ludwig's face, with fear and anger as an expression.
Willum has a general direction on where to look.

Nesvalyn: Where is my fiancé?

The pool turns into murky black, you see little white dots, when you realize you're looking at the stars. It pans down on a ship, and you hear Paildreo's voice, calling out "I'm a looking for a dragonborn named Nesvalyn", as you approach, you see silhouettes, but blocking the vision.
"Me too Love, me too. I'm still looking for you." (The otters mention that they can't hear you).

Persy: Are my loved ones ok?

The pool clearly into the kitchen, living their normal life. You're a bit sad as you see they're doing their daily life, and in the living room, you see a prized possession of yours along childhood toys, near a funeral shrine. His family thinks Persy is dead.
Persy leaves with a sad look, Nesvalyn and Willum tries to know more and confort him.

Reylynn: Will I succeed going back to the village?

The pool ripples and shows the mountains her people call "Home". When she's bunny hoping being excited, her family is happy to see her back, until the mountain turns gray, and she notices the mountain is made of skulls, crushing the village. When looking down, she has blood on her hands.
She quietly leaves the tent and stays quiet. (You ok?) Yeah. (Sure?) It's good and fine.

Loyal: Is there a way to reverse what happened to Persy?

The pool ripples shows clouds of black smoke, revealing some kind of forge. You see an unconscious Tiefling, and two dark cloaked figures, and this molten metal is poured directly over this Tiefling, and then you see Persy in his current form.
Flashing back, you hear the ticking of a clock ticking backwards, and reveals a device glowing with this weird white light. You can't see precisely what this device is, but you have an idea where it is and you would recognize it if you see it.
He bows and goes out.

Balnorin: What is my purpose?

The pool ripples and reflects gray clouds. Then the clouds start to shift around, where you're moving into some kind of structure. When looking inside, there's this big silver sarcophagus, lid open, figure sits up, and it comes towards you. A woman is visible.
[Insight - Pass ✔] Balnorin recognizes the current Wonder of Death, his goddess, equipped in silver armor, billowing cloak black.
She pulls out her silver blade, looks at you, mumbles something then does a leap of faith.

We attempt to enjoy the night, and in this restless night, we try to rest and reflect on what just happened.

The party tries to find sleep after all these events...
The party levels up to level 8!
