Ancients
The Ancients lived in harmony with all the other animals that they were created with. They were nomadic hunter-gatherers who typically lived in heavily forested areas. Ancient Wundera was a wild and unforgiving place, and despite their small stature and rudimentary technology, tribes flourished in all corners of the world. It is believed that they spoke the language of the wilds, granting their magicians the ability to shape nature in their image. They also formed close working relationships with various species, domesticating many of the animals that live happily with Wunderans still to this day.
The Ancients lived in relative peace for much of their existence. Archaeologists have found apparent evidence of them having friendships and alliances with Giants, and having great reverence (or fear) for the Great Mother Dragons. Many of these theories were formed from ancient Giants records; historians theorize that the Ancients may not have had writing, or that no records survived their demise. Sometime around 3000 P.E., the majority of the population was forced into extinction by the Immortals. It’s believed that whatever few Ancients remained evolved into modern day Humans, or possibly are connected to the Gnomes, who were previously thought to have sprung from the sea.
It would later turn out that the Ancient’s extinction was only temporary. In the year 903 B.I., the Ancients were reborn; allegedly a result of a Stone Giant granting a wish. These new Ancients became known as Neorn, (then later, Halflings) and quickly found their homes among the Allied Peoples of modern Wundera. The Giants were particularly welcoming to them in spite of their reluctance to embrace outsiders. Although modern Halflings are far removed from their ancestors, they are just as resilient and adaptable as their Ancient predecessors.
